Visa for Germany?

Looking for a reliable language course in Nuremberg, an intensive German course in Nuremberg or want to learn German in Nuremberg while applying for a language course visa? At PRIMUS Fremdsprachen you will find exactly the courses that meet the requirements of German diplomatic missions – and we support you throughout the entire process.

What is the language course visa?

The language course visa (visa for the purpose of language acquisition under Section 16f of the Residence Act) allows non-EU citizens to come to Germany for the duration of an intensive German course. A key requirement is an intensive or super-intensive course with normally at least 18 teaching hours per week.

Evening and weekend courses are usually not sufficient for this type of visa. That is why we only offer and arrange visa-compliant German courses in Nuremberg in intensive and super-intensive formats.

Duration, extension and possible follow-up options

The language course visa is normally issued for the duration of the booked course, for a maximum of 12 months. An extension is possible if you remain enrolled in an intensive course, can show progress and have sufficient financial means.

What type of visa is this and which residence titles can it be converted into?

The language course visa under Section 16f of the Residence Act is a national visa (D visa) for the purpose of language acquisition. It generally only entitles the holder to attend an intensive language course and usually allows limited part-time work of up to 20 hours per week.

After successful completion of the course, or once the relevant requirements are met, this visa can in practice be converted into the following residence titles:

• Study visa / residence permit for study (Section 16b of the Residence Act) – if admission to a German university has been granted
• Visa / residence permit for employment (for example as a skilled worker with vocational or academic training) – with a suitable job offer and qualification
• Opportunity Card or other skilled-immigration options – depending on the individual points score and requirements
• In individual cases, other residence titles as well, provided the legal requirements are met

Conversion is not automatic. It depends on the specific documents, progress and the decision of the competent immigration authority. We advise you on this transparently and realistically.

Which courses are suitable for the language course visa?

We arrange and reserve courses in Nuremberg that meet the official requirements:

• At least 18–20 hours per week (often more for super-intensive courses)
• Daily classroom teaching
• Levels from A1 to C1
• Official course confirmation accepted by diplomatic missions
• Specifically suitable for a language course in Nuremberg and for the visa application
